71% of Bogotá Trips Use Sustainable Means of Transportation

The Secretariat of Mobility of Bogota published the “Mobility Survey 2023 Bogota – Region“. The study shows that of the 12.1 million daily trips, 8.44 million are made on foot, by public transport or bicycle.

The preference for sustainable modes of transport in the municipalities of the metropolitan area is similar, since of the 2.5 million daily trips made, 1.75 million are made in sustainable modes, representing 71% of all daily trips.

On the other hand, and with the approval of the District Development Plan ‘Bogotá Camina Segura’, the administration has projected that by 2027 daily trips in sustainable modes will represent 74% of the city’s trips.

“The goal to be achieved with actions such as the implementation of 83,000 public and private bicycle parking spaces, the creation of 59 km of bicycle infrastructure, the conservation of 1,120,000 m² of sidewalks and the expansion of the Integrated Public Transport System (Sitp) with 143 km of trunk lines, which will ensure greater coverage and efficiency in public transport,” says the secretariat in a report published by Infobae.

In accordance with the above and in a historic decision, the Bogotá Council approved the inclusion of bicycles in the Integrated Public Transport System (Sitp).

The measure, which received broad support from the lobbyists, has as its main objective to promote the use of bicycles as a sustainable means of transportation.

Bogota’s Integrated Public Transportation System is structured according to the provisions of the Mobility Master Plan. The system is conceived as an instrument to guarantee a better quality of life for citizens, optimizing travel service levels.
