Banco Santander and Formula 1 Launch Global Challenge to Promote Innovations in Sustainable Mobility

With the goal of seeking innovative solutions for mobility, logistics and transportation, and alternatives to offset carbon emissions, Banco Santander and Formula 1 announced a challenge in which startups will be able to present technological and sustainable projects for the automotive fleet.

The initiative will consist of the launch of the Santander X Global Challenge | Countdown to Zero, in which F1 will play a relevant role as part of the jury and will promote the most outstanding initiatives.

The collaboration is aligned with the commitment made by the world’s top motor racing category to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030 as part of its sustainability strategy, which includes the introduction of 100% sustainable fuels by 2026 and innovations in transport and logistics that will improve emissions reduction.

Challenge Details

The challenge will be available in 11 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Germany, Mexico, Portugal, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay.

The participating projects will go through different evaluation processes until they reach the final phase in which the 20 best solutions will compete, 10 startups and 10 scaleups, which will present their initiatives in October to an international jury composed of experts from different sectors, including a member of F1.

Finally, the six winning projects will be chosen and will receive 120,000 euros in prizes: 30,000 euros for the three winning startups (10,000 euros each) and 90,000 euros for the three best scaleups (30,000 euros each). All of them will have access to Santander X 100, the exclusive global entrepreneurship community of Santander X’s most outstanding projects, which connects them with the resources they need to grow, including: advice and training, capital, customers, talent, networking and other valuable resources.

Both startups and scaleups, will be able to present their projects linked to three categories:

‘On the track: for those who wish to present projects related to the future of sustainable mobility with zero emissions.

On the move’: for those who provide solutions that increase environmental sustainability in the field of logistics and transport, whether by road, sea or air.

Balance to zero’: to generate innovative alternatives for offsetting the carbon footprint.

The Santander X Global Challenge | Countdown to Zero call for proposals will be open until September 8 at www.santanderx.com.
