Another major automaker has accelerated its electrification plans in Mexico. This is General Motors and the presentation of its first Chevrolet Blazer EV produced in the company’s regional complex, which has delighted the country’s automotive industry.
Officially, certain specifications of the vehicle, such as the size of the batteries, have not yet been disclosed, but it will have different power levels. The highest figure will be for the SS version, with about 557 horsepower and 648 lb-ft.
This version will have the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4 seconds. In addition, Chevrolet confirmed that they will launch a Police Pursuit Vehicle variant, i.e. a patrol car, which will be based on the SS version, but with exclusive features to fulfill its police functions.

Big Boost
After the presentation of the General Motors vehicle, the President of the Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Ramos Arizpe (AIERA), Sergio Alain Aguilar Guerra, assured that this represents the kick-off of the electromobility boom in the Southeast Region of Coahuila.
“Now we can say that we officially have the first vehicles assembled in the region,” he celebrated. In statements broadcast by Autodinámico, the union representative said that work began a few years ago on this transition to develop the suppliers that supply parts for these vehicles.
Aguilar Guerra commented that there are many companies that are already supplying equipment to electric car assemblers, not only local ones, but from other countries, an example of this, is that there are 16 to 17 plants that supply Tesla’s plants in the United States.
“We can say that suppliers in the region are already working with new technologies and with trained people, producing components for electric vehicles.”
It is worth noting that of the 135 members that AIERA has, at least 30% are from the automotive sector and of the latter between 30 and 40% are suppliers for electric vehicles.
“We have suppliers of all kinds, from powertrain, chassis or suspension components, to suppliers for interiors, specialized in plastic injection, bodywork, seats and others,” he said.
