Road safety is considered a public health issue worldwide due to the number of fatalities, chronic injuries and lifelong disabilities. As a leading fleet management company, Element Fleet Management prioritizes road safety as part of our business strategy, aligned with our focus on environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.

In this way, we ensure that our customers have access to the most advanced safety technology and make a positive contribution to road safety in the markets in which we operate on a global scale.

The fleet management sector in Mexico is experiencing remarkable growth, and we are firmly committed to leading by example. Our focus on safety not only seeks to increase our customers’ productivity, but also to improve the country’s troubling road safety indicators. We are acutely aware that, in our industry, we must foster innovation to develop comprehensive solutions that effectively merge productivity and safety.

Low- and middle-income countries account for 93% of traffic fatalities. Mexico ranks seventh in the world in terms of traffic accidents, and second in Latin America. This fact has a significant economic impact for the country, equivalent to approximately 4.5% of the annual GDP. For these reasons, promoting safe, efficient and sustainable mobility should be considered an unquestionable priority.

When it comes to fleet management, telematics presents itself as an essential tool to ensure that we offer companies the optimal safety features. According to Arval’s Mobility Barometer 2023, nearly 75% of companies in Mexico currently make use of telematics features, especially in cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), mainly driven by safety-related concerns.

Given that vehicle safety technology could save more than 5,600 lives a year in Mexico, we are fully aware that our actions have a significant impact on society. Our range of products and services focused on fleet driver safety has been shown to significantly reduce preventable crashes by an average of 21% over a three-year period.

In addition, we have developed an innovative and powerful tool to achieve this goal, known as DriverCare Connect, which will provide crucial information on driver habits and skills, enabling us to take corrective action to effectively increase safety.

Understanding the power of data has driven our investment decisions. Element has the ability to provide our customers with comprehensive information about all aspects of their vehicles and mobility. In Mexico, the human factor is responsible for 7 out of 10 traffic accidents. Our goal is to reduce these statistics through the implementation of effective driver training, as part of our firm belief that road safety education must be central to our strategy.

The United Nations Second Decade of Action for Road Safety aims to reduce road traffic deaths and serious injuries by 50% by 2030. This ambitious goal highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach to road safety that encompasses improving road infrastructure and vehicle design, strengthening laws and enforcement, and providing timely medical care for the injured.

Internationally renowned organizations, such as the Red Cross, the Latin New Car Assessment Program (Latin NCAP) and the Global Road Safety Partnership, have recently launched the “Safe Fleets Agreement” in Mexico. This certification program is designed for institutions and companies whose fleets comply with the safety devices recommended by the United Nations.

In this context, Element will join this program this year as a strong testament to our commitment to promoting safety in Mexico.

As the leaders in fleet management in Mexico, we continue to develop creative approaches to ensure that our customers have access to innovative products and services that drive their bottom line, while keeping the safety of their fleets, their drivers and the community at large as a priority.
