BYD and Hino Announce a Pilot Plan to Assemble Electric Buses in Colombia

BYD and Hino plan to carry out a pilot plan to assemble electric buses in Colombia, a collaboration between two companies that will drive the adoption of clean technologies in the country’s public transportation sector.

All this according to statements by Lara Zhang, Regional Manager of BYD Colombia to Forbes, who shared details about this project, where the intention is to initiate an experimental program for the assembly of articulated buses in Colombia in partnership with Hino, a Japanese brand in the automotive industry.

“As BYD, we believe that we should not only provide the technology but also transfer knowledge, and we have found the right ground in the country. Then we will seek to make important parts of the bodywork, and later on, the assembly and Colombian participation will be much greater,” Zhang affirmed.

Colombia and sustainable mobility

The choice of Colombia as the venue shows a growing interest in the adoption of clean technologies and in the fight against climate change. With developing infrastructure, the nation presents itself as a conducive environment for electric transportation.

Thus, the pilot plan seeks to introduce electric buses in Colombia while strengthening the local value chain, at the same time that the assembly of these vehicles generates employment and fosters the development of technical capacities in the country.

“The country has already demonstrated that it has the talent for the production of bodywork for electric buses, with more than 1,500 units produced, and now the project is to start assembling the vehicles entirely,” Zhang concluded.
