This week will be held the meeting of Energy Ministers of the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA), to discuss issues such as electromobility and energy storage with battery systems.
In a report by the EFE news agency, it is noted that prior to the XVII Council of Energy Ministers of SICA, to be held on Thursday, the Ordinary Meeting of Energy Directors of the regional organization has already been installed in the Honduran capital.
The Honduran Undersecretary of Energy, Tomás Rodríguez, told EFE that they have several topics to discuss, some of the main ones of greatest interest are energy storage through batteries and other types of technologies.

Two other topics on the ministers’ agenda are electromobility so that the region can continue to be introduced into the new mode of transport, with electric vehicles for the public and private sector, and geothermal energy, which consists of generating energy through the heat generated in the earth’s interior, Rodríguez stressed.
All Types of Transportation
The undersecretary also pointed out that electromobility involves the use of vehicles, motorcycles, buses, trains and other types of transportation in the Central American region.
Regarding geothermal projects, the senior Honduran official indicated that his country operates a plant in the department of Copán (west), bordering Guatemala, which generates 40 megawatts.
Regarding the generation of electricity with renewable resources, Rodriguez stressed that it is important to store energy with battery systems and other technologies because in Honduras and other countries in the region “are not at the forefront” and “have to acquire them”.
He added that renewable energy projects are initially planned without storage, but in the future they present variability when there is not enough sun and wind, affecting the transmission and distribution systems.
