Codelco Salvador Division added 30 new electric buses to the 155 already operating in the Corporation, distributed in El Teniente, Chuquicamata and Andina.
As part of the strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the division in the Atacama Region converted 100% of its fleet to electric buses.
The program includes intelligent bus stops built with recycled materials and powered by solar energy.

Project Details
The new Yutong electric buses, with a range of 350 kilometers, will enable employees of Codelco’s El Salvador Division to travel to the mine site on a daily basis in a clean and sustainable way, helping to reduce emissions from the mine’s operations.
The project will be implemented under the Charging as a Service (CaaS) modality, which offers a complete infrastructure, maintenance and energy management solution for the charging points, through the construction of the electro-terminals.
Claudio Candia, Enel X’s Business and Industry Manager, highlighted the advantages of the project, pointing out that it brings with it a series of positive impacts, which in addition to contributing to the decarbonization of mining operations, directly benefits the community and above all the workers at this Codelco site”.
“We are happy to be able to work together with Enel X and Codelco in the framework of this agreement, which will allow us to make a definitive contribution to the electrification of transport and the energy transition towards clean energy,” said Andrés Navarrete, Executive Director of BTG Pactual.
The initiative will allow close to a thousand people to travel daily to and from their homes in modern zero-emission buses, which will reduce emissions by more than 1,980 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to the positive impact of planting 4,960 trees.
