The Mayor of Bucaramanga, Jaime Andrés Beltrán spoke exclusively with the Latam Mobility team to offer his perspectives on the outlook for sustainable mobility in Colombia.
He pointed out that the Mayor’s Office’s development plan includes important commitments on mobility issues and environmental support, with the aim of improving the health of citizens and air quality.
The official called on the central government to approve resources to promote investments since, in his opinion, the transportation systems are in “a critical situation”.

“Today we see in the city an empty transportation system, people are migrating to private vehicles to such an extent that we went from 200,000 motorcycles in the last four-year period to almost 900,000 motorcycles,” he criticized.
Fewer Options for the Citizen
Mayor Beltrán pointed out that the lack of a solid transportation system leads to a lack of harmonization and articulations. “The non-connection of the citizen with the bicycle routes, the non-participation of the citizen with an environmentally friendly mobility has led to the fact that the city has distanced itself.”
He emphasized that it is necessary to push for the attainment of resources to seek solutions effectively. “We have the knowledge, we know what we want, we are clear on how we want to do it, but we lack the funding.”
The official reiterated that any action taken on mobility issues requires investment in fleets and infrastructure in general.
