Mercado Libre operates in Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia with electric vehicles

For years, Mercado Libre has been working to reduce its carbon footprint through various strategies, notably including the integration of electric vehicles into its transportation fleet, which now includes more than 2,000 units across Latin America.

To achieve this, a $400 million sustainable bond issued in 2021 was used to cover the investment in electrified vehicles, adding 500 delivery vans to the existing fleet, bringing the total to over 1,000 units in the Latin American region.

Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia now have deliveries made using these electric vehicles, as part of the company’s sustainability initiatives focused on internal operations, emission reduction, and offsetting.

The Buenos Aires, Argentina-based company has invested capital in recent years to expand its business and strengthen its impact on e-commerce. However, it aims to continue working in this direction.

This comes as the company recognizes that one of the sectors seeking to significantly reduce carbon emissions is mobility, since business fleets are constantly on the move, thereby generating greenhouse gases with a greater impact—especially for a company like Mercado Libre that provides shipping and delivery services.
