The Municipality of Villarrica, Chile, will begin the replacement of 20 bus stops for urban public transport, for an amount of US$ 500 million, financed by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
According to the local media Temuco, the proposed refurbishments are intended to innovate in the transport sector and incorporate initiatives related to electric mobility.
It was in a session of the Municipal Council that the town councilors approved the subscription of the public bidding contract for the project called “Conservation of Minor Infrastructure for Public Transport in the Araucanía Region”.

Decarbonization
The project goes hand in hand with electromobility, which will be implemented starting next year in the commune of Villarrica.
“There are 20 posts that will be installed in the urban and central area of the city, those that were most damaged, as part of the electromobility project that starts next year”, explained the Director of Transit and Public Transport, Enrique Muñoz.
Mayor Germán Vergara, informed that he made a request to the Ministry of Transportation for this need, for which the resources were approved.
In this line, he detailed that they will be “modern sentry boxes, with a much wider design, which aims to improve the quality of life of the neighbors”.
He also emphasized that they will have “electric mobilization of public transport and, in line with that, we also have to have a better quality of sentry boxes that are in the different points of our commune”.
It should be noted that the Electromobility project includes the construction of new terminals for electric buses, 20 bus shelters that are already underway, the traffic lights at intersections and the tender, at the end of next year, of around 54 electric buses, in a process in charge of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
