Mexico Partners with the United States to Develop Charging Infrastructure

The Ministry of Mobility of the State of Mexico (SEMOV) is working in parallel with the U.S. Department of Transportation to evaluate initiatives to promote electric mobility.

A report in the local newspaper El Milenio states that both administrations are working on a strategy to explore the installation of infrastructure for electric vehicles, a key technology for the decarbonization of the vehicle fleet.

The head of the agency, Daniel Sibaja, held a dialogue with state and neighboring country authorities to outline a mobility strategy to help implement this scheme.

A Range of Projects

This measure is in addition to other strategies that the agency has implemented in different parts of the entity, such as the incursion of mass transportation vehicles powered by electric energy.

The authority explained that the meeting was called “Infrastructure Planning Workshop for Electronic Vehicles” and one of its objectives was to develop a plan for electric vehicle chargers in the State of Mexico.

“The coordination that should exist between the three levels of government, establish regulatory guidelines for electric vehicles and implement economic incentives that allow public transport to move towards electromobility,” it was stated.

Likewise, representatives of the business sector presented proposals for the regulatory framework to be developed to initiate the project of a state network of chargers for electric vehicles, in which cab companies and parcel delivery companies would participate.

In this area, they indicated that they will seek to coordinate with carriers the areas with the highest demand for electric chargers and will continue with the construction of public policies for the planning of infrastructure for environmentally friendly vehicles.
