The new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced during her inauguration speech that she aims to increase the share of renewable energies in the country to a level of 45 % by 2030.
“We are going to boost renewable energies, the goal is that by 2030 they will have a 45 % share,” said the president, who read the 100 points of her ‘transformation program’, in which she reserves a section for energy policy.
Sheinbaum also advanced a project that will provide access to photovoltaic panels for inhabitants of cities in the north of the country where the summer rate “is very high,” which, according to the president, will reduce costs for the population and allow them to contribute to the care of the environment.

Electricity
The President affirmed that another of the objectives is the strengthening of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the national company dedicated to hydrocarbons, and of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) as “public, strategic companies of the State”.
“The fundamental objective of oil production will continue to be domestic consumption, not exports, and for this reason the strengthening of our refineries will be limited to a production of 1.8 million barrels per day,” said the President in declarations reported by EFE.
In addition, she anticipated the promotion of a project to make vehicles sold in Mexico “efficient” in order to promote electromobility.
She also announced the strengthening of the CFE’s energy transmission capacity. “CFE will guarantee and strengthen transmission, energy distribution and generation capacity.
As we said, CFE will produce at least 54% of generation and 46% with private generation,” said Sheinbaum, who thanked her predecessor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, for leaving the system this way.
