Colombia: Electric Carriages Authorized for Tourist Use

The Colombian Ministry of Transportation authorized the transit of electric carriages for tourism purposes in the different municipalities of the country.

According to a report by Infobae, the measure comes into force to promote the transition towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly modes of transportation.

The guidelines are aimed at tourist service providers, registered in the National Tourism Registry (RNT), interested in offering tourist services in electric carriages.

It establishes the requirements, procedures, and conditions for operating such vehicles in urban areas.

Focus on Sustainable Mobility

Vice Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Enriquez Caicedo, highlighted the initiative, saying this bet is a “reflection of the government’s commitment to sustainable mobility” and a boost to the industry for improving the tourist service.

Tour operators must follow procedures to obtain permits, depending on the number of providers and authorized circulation sites.

Additionally, electric carriages must be registered and meet minimum safety conditions; they must also secure personal accident and civil liability insurance policies.
