Authorities in Bogotá are seeking a coordinated plan to promote sustainable mobility

The Mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, proposed to the National Government to work towards a future where sustainable mobility is prioritized, generating zero or low emissions.

In this regard, the District has already presented a proposal to activate article 172 of its National Development Plan.

Due to the lack of resources, Mayor Galán sought alternatives to implement the articles of the National Development Plan.

Ultimately, there are two articles that include funding for a new fleet, with co-financing up to 70% of the investment (article 172); and also article 183, which pertains to fleets in operation with zero or low emissions, co-financed by the Nation up to 50%.

The District covered the deficit this year and will work to meet the goals of the National Development Plan and the city’s goals for a sustainable public transport system, such as the extension project to Soacha.

Projects

“We submitted a project ready for review to the Ministry of Transport in November of this year, which allows for the operation of 269 bi-articulated electric buses in Bogotá and Soacha, specifically for the extension of the Soacha trunk line to the portal yard,” said María Fernanda Ortiz, manager of TransMilenio.

“This will allow us to reduce particulate matter emissions by more than 53%, and cut 93% of CO2 emissions in Bogotá and the region,” she emphasized.

In this way, the municipality invites working together with the National Government to renew the fleet with zero or low emissions, in addition to improving service quality and increasing system capacity for the benefit of the citizens.
