The Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR), Colombia, announced the installation of three free solar charging stations.
According to the director of CAR, Alfred Ignacio Ballesteros, as reported to the local outlet El Tiempo, the stations will be strategically located in: Zipaquirá, at the administrative headquarters of the Sabana Centro Regional, in Sopó, at Parque Puente, and in Cogua, at the Embalse del Neusa park.
The stations, powered by solar photovoltaic energy, are part of a more ambitious plan to build a total of eight electric charging stations in the region by 2027.

These initiatives will help reduce the consumption of conventional energy, promote sustainable mobility, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
“This solar charging station model is the future of mobility in Colombia. We want companies and institutions to adopt this clean system, and for citizens to move away from the use of fossil fuels,” said Ballesteros.
More than 200,000 residents and 150,000 annual park visitors will benefit from this infrastructure. Additionally, the charging points will be completely free, which will encourage the use of electric vehicles in the region.
The CAR allocated over 1.6 billion Colombian pesos to this first phase of the project. Ballesteros explained that the goal is to progressively expand coverage to other municipalities within the CAR jurisdiction.
