Chile added 10.6 MW of installed capacity to the public charging infrastructure

A total of 10.6 MW of installed capacity was added to the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in public locations during 2024 in Chile, representing an annual growth of 43%, bringing the total installed capacity in the country to 35 MW, according to data from the National Energy Commission (CNE).

In a report by the local media outlet Electrominería, it was noted that the highest volume of energy incorporated last year occurred in December (2.7 MW), April (2.1 MW), and November (2 MW), while the lowest record was in March, registering 147 kW.

The number of installations also grew during the period, adding 112 new public charging points, representing a 24% increase compared to 2023, bringing the total to 511 public installations across the country.

According to data from the CNE, the installed capacity of the 28 public transport electro-terminals in the Metropolitan Region closed 2024 with a total of 84 MW, distributed across 12 districts of Santiago, serving a fleet of 2,480 electric buses.

Meanwhile, in other regions, the installed capacity reaches 2.8 MW, corresponding to the bus electro-terminals in Antofagasta (1.7 MW), for 40 electric buses, and Valparaíso (1 MW), for 44 electric buses.
