Donald Trump continues taking actions that undermine tax incentives to promote electric mobility in the United States.
This week, the Federal Department of Transportation sent a letter to the states informing them that it was suspending approval of the spending plans for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.
The Trump administration is blocking funds allocated to states to support the construction of a national electric vehicle (EV) charging network.
Policies of his predecessor
Former President Joe Biden announced funding in support of his goal to build a national network of electric vehicle chargers that is convenient, affordable, and made in America.
The program, called National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI, by its initials in English), was designed to provide $5 billion to finance the construction of charging networks along the highways, and the Federal Highway Administration had approved the states’ plans.
Emily Biondi, from the Federal Highway Administration, stated that the agency was rescinding the approval of all state plans for the program.
Biondi noted that the new directive from the Department of Transportation decided to review the underlying policies related to the implementation of the NEVI Formula Program.
The letter explained that no new obligations can be made under the NEVI Formula Program until the final updated NEVI Formula Program Guide is published and new state plans are submitted and approved.
