Enel X Presents Innovative Solutions for Transport Electrification in Mexico

The North America Mobility Summit 2025, held in Monterrey, was the stage where Rafael Burgos, Head of Enel X México, presented the company’s progress and business models in developing innovative solutions for sustainable electrification in the country. His presentation was attended by more than 400 attendees, over 70 speakers, and 20 partners.

Since its arrival in Mexico in 2022, Enel X has led key initiatives in electric mobility, distributed generation, smart lighting, and renewable energy solutions. Burgos explained that the company has worked with both the public and private sectors through innovative business models to drive the transformation of public transportation in the country.

“Among the implemented models, Charging as a Service and e-Bus as a Service stand out. The first, applied on Metrobús Lines 3 and 4 in Mexico City, consists of financing, operating, and maintaining charging infrastructure for electric buses. Meanwhile, the e-Bus as a Service model, implemented in Metrorey in Monterrey, integrates both the charging infrastructure and 100% electric buses within a leasing scheme,” stated Burgos.

Tangible Impact on Public Transportation

During his presentation, Burgos detailed the projects in Mexico City and Monterrey:

  • Metrobús Line 3: Installation of 25 chargers of 180 kW, with an installed capacity of 4.4 MW, enabling the electrification of 60 buses and benefiting 200,000 daily users.
  • Metrobús Line 4: Installation of 28 chargers of 180 kW, with a capacity of 4.9 MW, supporting 55 electric buses.
  • Electric Route in Monterrey: Implementation of 11 chargers of 180 kW for 21 electric buses with an autonomy of 380 kW, backed by solar energy.

These projects include a digital monitoring platform that allows real-time evaluation of battery status and charger performance, optimizing energy use.

Towards a Sustainable Future

During his speech, Burgos emphasized the importance of digitalization, innovation, and sustainability in the energy transition. He explained that Enel X electrifies transportation and is committed to 100% renewable energy generation, closing the sustainability cycle from the source to the final consumption.

Finally, he highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to continue advancing in electric mobility. He emphasized the case of Monterrey, where electric buses made in Mexico have been successfully assembled—an achievement that demonstrates the feasibility and potential of the national industry in this transition.
