Chile Strengthens Sustainable Mobility Commitment with the 2025 Electromobility Agreement

Acuerdo de Electromovilidad en Chile

Chile has taken a decisive step in its transition to sustainable transportation by launching the 2025 Electromobility Agreement in Chile. This public-private commitment shows a substantial evolution from the previous 2023–2024 agreement, with more institutions involved, broader geographic coverage, and long-term goals aligned with carbon neutrality by 2050.

Key developments in infrastructure, regulation, and human capital

Compared to the earlier version, the new agreement increases stakeholder participation (from 166 to 175) including tech companies, academic institutions, and regional governments. It also strengthens key focus areas such as charging infrastructure interoperability, decentralization of regional electric mobility plans, certified training programs, and safety protocols for electric vehicles.

One of the main goals of the Electromobility Agreement in Chile is to build a reliable national charging network that allows citizens to confidently use electric vehicles across the country. It also seeks to accelerate regulatory advancements and skills development to sustain industry growth.

Collaborative goals and long-term vision

The new framework shifts from isolated individual efforts to collaborative projects with shared goals. It moves beyond the short-term vision of 2024 toward a roadmap aligned with Chile’s long-term decarbonization strategy.

This new version includes emerging technologies like vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems, green hydrogen, micromobility, and artificial intelligence to enhance transport efficiency and safety.

Chile as a regional electromobility leader

Thanks to this collective effort, Chile positions itself as a regional leader in electromobility, proving that multisector collaboration can effectively drive the energy transition. Clear objectives include expanding the charging infrastructure, ensuring regional equity, reducing emissions, and fostering socially impactful innovation.
