KIA Announces Multimillion-dollar Investment in Electric Infrastructure in Colombia to Accelerate Sustainable Mobility

KIA

In a move that reinforces its commitment to the energy transition and transportation decarbonization, KIA, the renowned South Korean vehicle manufacturer, announced an ambitious investment aimed at boosting sustainable mobility in the country.

The company will allocate more than $1.5 million throughout 2026 to strengthen charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, a measure that seeks to eliminate one of the main barriers to user access.

This initiative not only represents a milestone in the brand’s electrification strategy in the region, but also consolidates it as a key player in building a cleaner, more accessible mobility ecosystem for all Colombians.

KIA‘s new investment will be realized through a strategic partnership with the engineering firm Dielco, with which the company has been developing a charging network at strategic, high-traffic points in Bogotá and other cities across the country.

The collaboration aims to accelerate the installation of new charging stations, facilitating the so-called “opportunity charging” for users at shopping malls, universities, and road corridors, making the experience of charging an electric vehicle “as simple as parking.”

The measure directly responds to one of the main needs of the Colombian market in its process of adopting new technologies, where the availability of charging points is a determining factor in consumers’ purchase decisions.

Expanding Charging Ecosystem

Currently, KIA already has a charging infrastructure that exceeds 76 connection points nationwide, distributed among its own dealerships and high-traffic public spaces in alliance with Dielco.

Among the most relevant points are the stations located at the Titán Plaza, Atlantis, and the recently inaugurated City U (Universidad de los Andes), which feature 24 kW (DC) fast chargers and 7.5 kW (AC) chargers for use by the general public and free of charge for the university community.

The expansion will continue over the coming months with the opening of new locations at Plaza Central and Gran Estación II, among other key hubs in the country.

“We want charging an electric vehicle in Bogotá to be as simple as parking. This initiative validates that the responsibility for infrastructure does not fall solely on the State or energy companies, but that automotive brands must be active protagonists to ensure our customers have places to charge their vehicles,” explained Manuel Fernández, CX & Channel Director of KIA Colombia.

With this approach, the South Korean automaker is betting on an integrated business model that combines vehicle sales with value-added services that facilitate the energy transition.

A Range of Electrified Vehicles for All Profiles

KIA‘s electrification plan in Colombia is not limited solely to charging infrastructure. In parallel, the company has been expanding its portfolio of electrified vehicles (EVs) with the goal of offering alternatives for all types of users and needs.

Currently, Colombian consumers have access to a range that includes everything from 100% electric models to hybrid (HEV) and mild hybrid (MHEV) options, such as the EV3, EV5, EV6, EV9, the new Sportage Hybrid (now arriving from Korea with aesthetic and technical improvements), and the urban Stonic MHEV and Niro, providing a clean mobility solution that does not sacrifice design, cutting-edge technology, or driving performance.

For 2026, the brand projects an ambitious goal of reaching 15% market share in Colombia through the arrival of new models such as the EV2, the hybrid Telluride, and the hybrid Sorento.

In the medium and long term, KIA estimates that 30% of its sales in the country will be electric by the end of this decade, implying a complete repositioning of its commercial offer toward sustainability.

Global Leadership and Recognition

KIA‘s commercial momentum is underpinned by impeccable performance in the Colombian market. After closing 2025 with historic sales leadership, reaching 34,063 registered units (a 40.7% growth) and a 13.4% market share, the company has established itself as the number one brand in Colombia.

This success has been reflected in the recognition of KIA Colombia as the brand’s best global distributor worldwide in 2025, an award that had historically gone to Asian markets and has reached a South American subsidiary for the first time.

The 2025 results were driven by the success of the K3 sedan (the best-selling vehicle of the year in Colombia, with 9,728 units), the Sportage utility vehicle, and the urban Picanto (with 7,379 units), a product lineup that has captured the preferences of local consumers.

The positive streak has extended into 2026, during which the company has accumulated four consecutive months leading the national automotive industry, surpassing its own sales projections.

The figures position KIA as a key player in the recovery of the Colombian automotive sector, which grew 26.5% in 2025 compared to the previous year and seeks to maintain its momentum this year.

A Bet that Transcends the Automotive Industry

With these actions, KIA not only seeks to strengthen its leadership in the Colombian market but also positions itself as a promoter of urban sustainability.

The company has promoted community impact projects such as Kia Parks in Santa Marta (developed with Green Souls), which transforms waste into parks and urban furniture with up to 80% recycled material.

These initiatives demonstrate that sustainable mobility can regenerate territories and benefit entire communities, transcending the purely commercial sphere.

“We are convinced that this is a structural trend and not a passing phenomenon. Cyclical factors may explain some peaks, but it is the structural factors that are driving the shift,” concluded Jorge Neira, CEO of KIA Colombia, who assured that the company maintains its projection of reaching 45,000 registrations in 2026 and a 15% share of the Colombian automotive market.

With this announcement, KIA reaffirms its commitment to invest, innovate, and advance on the path toward a cleaner, more efficient, and more connected future for all Colombians.
