Agreement for the Transport Decarbonization of the Yucatan Peninsula

The environmental, mobility and urban planning authorities of the states of Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo signed the Pact for the Decarbonization of Transportation in the Yucatan Peninsula.

The agreement commits them to work together to develop a regional strategy to improve air quality in the peninsula’s cities and boost economic development, while promoting climate objectives through the adoption of technologies, infrastructure and behaviors associated with sustainable mobility modes and systems.

Through this pact, the signatory entities will seek to join efforts, share knowledge and work in a coordinated manner to achieve an effective decarbonization of the transportation sector in the Yucatan Peninsula.

The program will recognize that the fulfillment of these commitments will contribute to the mitigation of climate change, improve air quality and promote fairer and more equitable mobility for all the inhabitants of the region.

The official document of the agreement states that by signing this pact, the signatory states undertake to review and update it periodically to ensure its effectiveness and adaptability to changing circumstances.

One of the objectives is to develop and advance the implementation of a regional long-term strategy with the aim of achieving net zero carbon emissions by the middle of this century.

The roadmap will be underpinned by short- and medium-term objectives, closely related to generating jobs in a low-emission transport economy, promoting sustainable mobility and urban planning, and significantly improving air quality.
