Representatives of prestigious companies and the automotive industry gathered at “Latam Mobility & Net Zero: Southern Cone 2024“, to present their technological advances towards sustainable mobility.
Francisco Cabeza, EV Chargers Commercial Director of Huawei Digital Power Latin America and president of AMIVE, emphasized the importance of users and companies making the right decisions when choosing the type of charger for their electric vehicles.
“Making a good charger decision can save us 30% of the charge, it is not only the power I need but also guaranteeing the quality of energy so that each kilowatt is efficient,” he stressed.
“A good decision will help my business model and the country because the electric capacity in the world is limited, it must serve the largest number of electric vehicles because the resources we consume are very valuable,” Cabeza added.
The Huawei executive and president of AMIVE pointed out that it is key for citizens to understand what mobility and electromobility are, and called on governments to approve taxes on those who use combustion vehicles and move forward with incentives for those who have electric cars.
ZEV Yutong’s Range of Solutions
Rubens Poblete, Director and Co-Founder of ZEV Yutong, emphasized that they are a Chilean company that offers integral electromobility solutions.
They are Yutong representatives with a technological offer of electric trucks, hydrogen trucks, light trucks, tractor-trailers and miners.
“We offer sales, leasing, logistics operators, after-sales, maintenance, spare parts, cargo infrastructure with training,” he said.
Poblete revealed that they are testing an innovation related to battery replacement, a technology that is already widespread in China and which they want to start developing in Latin America as a quick solution to truck charging time.
Sustainable Focus of General Motors
Ángeles Rangel Díaz, Leader of Government, Communications and ESG of General Motors in Chile, Peru and Bolivia highlighted the progress made by the manufacturer to make the transition to sustainable mobility.
She detailed that the Chevrolet brand has more than 60 years in Chile with an undisputed leadership in matters of innovation with sustainability as a flag.
Rangel pointed out that from the manufacturing stage, General Motos evaluates opportunities to make the vehicle affordable for users, with the aim of massifying clean technologies.
She highlighted key projects such as “Factory Zero”, where all electric vehicles are equipped with the Ultium platform, the heart of the company’s electrified car strategy.
The Ultium platform encompasses the architecture for vehicles and propulsion components such as battery cells, modules, packages, drive units and electric vehicle motors, which will be fundamental in plants where electric vehicles are produced without generating emissions in the process.
ANAC Records Growth
Gustavo Hunter, Head of the Sustainable Mobility Department of the National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC), said that electromobility is growing steadily both in Chile and in the region.
He pointed out that the challenges related to the cost of the technology have diminished due to the fact that the supply has grown.
He pointed out that in terms of autonomy, 37% of the vehicles have a range of more than 300 kilometers, which allows for a better product.
With respect to charging infrastructure, ANAC has registered the installation of more than 200 charging points in Chile so far this year, and the electroroute located in La Serena stands out.
“Today we are breaking down barriers, people’s knowledge and information, removing those fears such as charging times. We know there are innovation challenges but we will make more and more progress,” Hunter concluded.
Andes Motor’s Experience
Mario Bahamondes, Branch Manager of Andes Motor, was part of the group of prestigious panelists during the first day of Latam Mobility & Net Zero: Southern Cone 2024.
The executive emphasized that they belong to the Kauffman Group and are specialists in selling electric products with a broad portfolio ranging from delivery vans, last mile fleets, electric buses, network system with Foton brand of 1,300 buses and solutions in truck transport and electric machinery for mining.
Bahamondes pointed out that the great challenge continues to be the cargo infrastructure and everything involved in the maintenance of the units. In this regard, Andes Motor offers a solid after-sales service with 38 branches in Chile.
He believes it is essential that users and companies seek expert advice because the charging solution differs according to the type of vehicle.
