The company Shell announced the expansion of its ultra-fast charger network for electric vehicles in South America.
Starting in 2025, the company will double the charging points at its service stations, aiming to improve the infrastructure along the main road corridors connecting Argentina with Chile, Uruguay, and Brazil.
The initiative seeks to promote electric mobility in the region and provide greater convenience to electric vehicle drivers.
Gradually, Argentina is joining the trend, with a growing electric vehicle fleet and a developing charging infrastructure. However, the demand for charging points still exceeds the available supply.
Growth Focus
In addition to Shell, other companies have begun implementing electric charging programs in Argentina, including YPF, Axion, Puma, and Gulf.
Since the price of this service is not yet regulated in the country, companies have adopted different business models, offering free charging, pay-per-minute usage, or monthly subscriptions.
A recent study by the Association of Automotive Dealerships (Acara) indicates that in 2024, 14,175 vehicles with hybrid or electric technology were registered in Argentina, representing a 48% growth compared to 2023.
Despite this progress, the mass adoption of electric vehicles still faces challenges, including the availability of chargers in strategic locations.
Given this scenario, Shell, whose operations in Argentina are under license from the Brazilian company Raizen, has decided to accelerate the expansion of its charging network.
In 2024, the company had already managed to connect a key 1,200-kilometer corridor between Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires, and Córdoba, offering 50 and 150 kWh chargers at its service stations.
The plan for 2025 includes the installation of new fast-charging corridors on strategic routes connecting Argentina with Chile, Brazil, and Uruguay.
This expansion will allow electric vehicle drivers to take long-distance trips with greater confidence, ensuring the availability of charging points on the main highways.
