BancoEstado Solidifies Role as a Key Enabler of Sustainable Mobility with 17 Million Clients and a Presence in more than 10 Regions

During the Latam Mobility Southern Cone 2026 event, María Dolores Peralta — Manager of the Personal Banking and Branches Division at BancoEstado — delivered a presentation titled “Driving the Mobility That Transforms Chile.” She outlined the state-owned bank’s strategic role in the transition toward sustainable, inclusive, and decentralized mobility.

Peralta emphasized that BancoEstado, being 100% owned by the State of Chile, holds a unique responsibility and opportunity to connect capital, infrastructure, people, and payments in order to make electromobility a reality across the entire country.

“For us, being Chile’s public bank is synonymous with connection. We connect capital, infrastructure, people, and payments, and we have forged alliances across this national ecosystem specifically to achieve sustainable mobility,” she said.

BancoEstado: A Cornerstone of Chile’s Mobility Ecosystem

María Dolores Peralta began her talk by sharing figures that demonstrate BancoEstado‘s massive scale and deep relevance in the lives of Chileans. 86% of the population in Chile holds an active BancoEstado payment method — the widely used CuentaRUT — which makes the institution a deeply embedded and far-reaching player.

Peralta noted that BancoEstado operates more than 547 branches nationwide, serves 346,000 small and micro-enterprises, and counts 17 million clients in a country of fewer than 20 million inhabitants.

This territorial reach and population coverage give it a privileged position to drive electromobility from the ground up — reaching taxi drivers, ride-share drivers, bus and truck owners, and individual consumers.

She also mentioned that BancoEstado has developed digital payment solutions such as QR and the ENVI standard (EMV card payment), with more than 3 million users enrolled on these platforms. “This ecosystem allows us to tackle the very issues we’re discussing today in an efficient, collaborative, and inclusive way,” she said.

Four Pillars With a Transportation Focus

Peralta explained that BancoEstado has defined a decarbonization strategy centered on four key sectors: energy generation, real estate and construction, agriculture, and — notably — transportation.

Across all these pillars, the bank has implemented public-private financing and collaboration models that have actively supported the country’s decarbonization goals.

“We want to boost electromobility and the world of charging enablers, which has been a big part of our conversations today,” she said. The executive stressed that the institution supports projects that encourage energy transformation and empower the various players within the ecosystem.

Among the concrete examples, she highlighted that the bank has financed more than 876 electric buses for the Red Metropolitana de Movilidad — a figure that aligns with the progress shared during the opening panel on Santiago’s electromobility.

She also highlighted the “Impacto+” business model, which connects large companies with their smaller suppliers to provide mutual support in transforming their energy matrix or replacing combustion vehicles with electric ones.

Green Loans and Leasing for SMEs and Individuals

One of the most powerful takeaways was BancoEstado‘s commitment to financial inclusion in electromobility. Peralta emphasized that energy transformation must not be a differentiator for the few but rather an inclusive element that brings the benefits of electromobility to everyone.

To that end, BancoEstado has developed specific financial solutions for smaller companies, including leasing financing, subsidies, and direct financing for electromobility — instruments that have allowed them to support clients in all regions of the country, with concrete cases in each one.

For individuals, the bank maintains an ongoing campaign offering preferential rates on green loans, even lower than standard consumer loan rates. Peralta showed charts demonstrating steady growth over the past three years in financing for electric bicycles, scooters, fully electric vehicles, and home solar panels.

“This means there is genuine interest. As long as financing is accessible, Chileans are eager to make this transformation,” she stated, underscoring that demand exists and the bank’s role is to enable that access.

Digitizing Public Transportation Payments

Peralta dedicated a central portion of her presentation to showing how BancoEstado is embedded in the public transportation systems of 10 regions in Chile, with more than 4.6 million Chileans using some form of transit payment solution provided by the bank.

She displayed a map of Chile illustrating the territorial expansion of digital payment systems: “The transformation isn’t centralized in the Metropolitan Region; it’s reaching the entire country,” she emphasized.

BancoEstado recorded more than 119 million QR-based trips over the past year, through both its own solution and RutPay, its interoperable payment platform. Peralta showed an upward adoption curve, noting, “This is here to stay. It’s transforming the way Chileans use transportation.”

She also highlighted the recent integration of digital payment on EFE (State Railways Company) trains, with solutions now live on the Valparaíso network, the Biotren in Concepción, and in the central zone. “As you can see, the adoption is sustained and permanent,” she said.

Collaboration, Inclusion, and Trust

At the close of her presentation, María Dolores Peralta offered a reflection on a recurring theme at Latam Mobility Southern Cone 2026: user trust.

She noted that much had been said throughout the day about the importance of trust for electromobility adoption, and stressed that BancoEstado brings precisely that — a trusted relationship built with 17 million Chileans.

She insisted that sustainable mobility will only be a true transformation if it is financeable, accessible to all, territorial, and inclusive, highlighting that the public bank’s role is to ensure this transformation reaches everyone and grants access to all.

“Technology ultimately moves vehicles, but collaboration, inclusion, and trust are what ultimately move a country. And BancoEstado is present there,” she concluded.

From public banks like BancoEstado to technology companies, vehicle manufacturers, research centers, and government authorities, everyone is called to be part of this historic shift. The region has the resources, talent, and will to lead the change. Now it’s time to keep moving forward — together.

Mexico, the grand finale of the Latam Mobility 2026 Tour

Mexico City is preparing to host the grand finale of the Latam Mobility 2026 Tour, the event that will cap off a journey across the region’s key markets.

On October 12 and 13, the Mexican capital will become the epicenter of dialogue and action for sustainable mobility in Latin America, bringing together the most influential decision-makers from the public and private sectors, along with international experts, investors, and pioneering companies in electromobility.

Latam Mobility México 2026 arrives at a pivotal moment for the country and the entire region.
