BMW’s Neue Klasse Incorporates an Energy Storage Function into Electric Vehicles

The forthcoming generation of BMW’s Neue Klasse vehicles, set to debut in 2025, will possess the capability to store energy and serve as an electrical power source.

Equipped with bidirectional charging technology, these automobiles can both receive and provide electricity. Through recent design explorations, the BMW Group unveils the vision of its forthcoming flagship models: the BMW Vision Neue Klasse sedan and the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X SAV.

These represent the forefront of technological innovation that will chart the course of BMW’s next generation, showcasing its dedication to future sustainability.

This broadens the spectrum of opportunities for BMW clientele to actively engage in the energy transition and foster the sustainable utilization of renewable energy sources. For the inaugural time, functionalities like “vehicle-to-home,” “vehicle-to-grid,” and “vehicle-to-charge” will be within reach for BMW patrons.

“We continuously refine our array of charging products and services to maximize customer benefits,” remarked Frank Weber, a board member of BMW AG and head of development.

“Commencing this summer, we will furnish cost-optimized charging solutions in partnership with E.ON across various markets. And with the Neue Klasse, we will embark on the next phase: bidirectional charging. Vehicle to Home and Vehicle to Grid, seamlessly integrated into our comprehensive charging ecosystem: BMW Connected Home Charging“, said.

“Leveraging the vehicle, the My BMW app, the BMW platform, alongside a BMW DC Wallbox Professional and its photovoltaic array, patrons will wield control over energy flow, facilitating home charging even sans grid connection. Moreover, they can curtail charging expenses by redistributing stored electricity from their BMW back to the power grid,” he concluded.
