The Head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, offered new details of the City’s plan to incorporate electric buses as of 2025.
“In tune with what is happening in the world, our city has a pending debt in this aspect. We will implement 100% electric buses in this line that will run through the historic center”, said Macri.
At the end of October, the Government of Buenos Aires launched a tender for the acquisition of 74 electric buses, in an attempt to incorporate new technologies in urban public transport.

“Neighbors will be able to pay fares not only with the SUBE, but also with their cell phones, credit and debit cards. This simplifies the use for tourists, visitors from the interior and those who do not use the system regularly”, highlighted Macri.
Purchase of Electric Buses
At the end of October, the CABA government launched a tender for the purchase of 74 electric buses, in an attempt to incorporate new technologies in urban public transport.
The project foresees the purchase of 59 units with a capacity of between 70 and 85 passengers and 15 articulated units, which will be able to transport more than 120 passengers.
The technical specifications included in the bidding documents require all vehicles to have a low floor, air conditioning, and electric power supply, in response to the demand for more sustainable mobility options.
To cover the electricity needs of these units, the purchase of 60 battery chargers, specific for the two types of vehicles tendered, is contemplated.
However, no mention is made of the construction of any complementary infrastructure, since the electric buses planned are exclusively battery-powered and do not require additional facilities, as streetcars might need.
The Head of Government announced that, within the next three months, all the units will be equipped with security cameras connected to the city’s monitoring center, reinforcing prevention and incident response.
