BYD Chile Joins “My Electric Taxi” Program

In line with its strategy of expansion and electrification of the transport sector in Latin America, BYD Auto Chile announced that it is joining the “My Electric Taxi” program, promoted by the Ministry of Energy and implemented by the Energy Sustainability Agency.

This initiative aims to encourage cabs and buses to change their internal combustion vehicles for 100% electrified technology.

Cristian Garces, General Manager of BYD Auto Chile, assured that the company is committed to the growth and development of electromobility in the country.

“We want to deliver value to society through a transport without gas emissions and without noise pollution, with all the comforts for both the driver and the service it delivers,” said the executive.

“The most important thing is also the savings in combustion versus a charge in an electric station, basically to drive 10,000 kilometers is an expense of $300,000 in an electric station, there is no comparison. Especially considering that the range of our models starts at 405 km“, added Garcés.

Program Scope and Goals

In its first version, the program achieved the replacement of 50 combustion vehicles used as basic cabs with electric vehicles in the city of Santiago, including the delivery and installation of a residential charger in the home at zero cost to the beneficiary.

In this second version, benefits are contemplated for a number of up to 80 basic cabs, executive cabs or urban buses, and will be extended territorially to the regions of Valparaíso, Metropolitan, Biobío, La Araucanía, Los Ríos and Aysén.

“My Electric Taxi”, together with BYD Auto, a brand represented in Chile by Astara, seeks to promote electromobility by incorporating two of the brand’s models: the Dolphin and Yuan Plus EV, in their GL and GS versions”, concluded Garcés.
