BYD Reaffirms Key Player Position in Technological Advances for the Colombian Vehicle Fleet

BYD continues to make a strong commitment to the Latin American market with a large participation in Colombia, where its operations contribute significantly to the development of electric mobility.

The Chinese multinational is the leader in electric buses in the country with more than 1,550 units operating in different mass transit systems, most of which are in Transmilenio. This fleet avoids the emission of 94,300 tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to planting 2,500,000 trees.

Additionally, BYD has a fleet of around one hundred electric cabs and special service vehicles in operation for more than 10 years, with an average of 600,000 kilometers per vehicle, and is the only brand that offers the most complete portfolio of light and heavy duty electric trucks.

Key player in mobility

Juan Luis Mesa, General Manager of BYD Colombia highlighted that with the product portfolio they have offered effective zero emission solutions in different cities in Colombia throughout these 10 years and the figures support their activity.

This allows us to affirm with confidence that BYD is the strategic ally to achieve the objectives that seek to strengthen electric mobility in the country,” he said.

“Beyond the above, our commitment to mitigating the effects of climate change is a priority and is in line with the plans to move towards a fair, safe, reliable and efficient energy transition in the country. It is also an opportunity to invite all Colombians to join us in our mission to reduce the Earth’s temperature by 1 °C”, added the executive.

Public Policies

The consolidation of electric mobility in Colombia is about to become a reality. The National Development Plan includes the roadmap for this sector, through the creation of the Fund for the Promotion of Technological Advancement, which will contribute to the fulfillment of the goals set by the National Government in terms of Energy Transition for this four-year period.

The fund will seek to finance the migration of Colombia’s bus, truck and cab fleets to clean mobility technologies, granting resources through four sub-accounts: zero-emission mobility for public passenger transportation systems co-financed by the nation; modernization of light and heavy cargo transportation; and modernization of the country’s cab fleet.
