BYD announced that it is developing an intelligent system within its advanced platform for electric vehicles.
The Chinese manufacturer will allocate an investment of approximately 12 billion euros to the development of intelligent cars.
This was revealed this week by the Founder and CEO of the Chinese automaker, Wang Chuanfu, who did not provide details of the launch.

Currently, among the company’s 90,000 employees, some 4,000 are dedicated to intelligent driving, of which three-quarters are programmers and the rest are engineers dedicated to hardware and algorithms.
Wang introduced BYD’s intelligent driving system, Xuanji, which integrates technologies related to artificial intelligence (AI) in the cloud, 5G connections or smart dashboard functions, enabling the vehicle to sense changes in the interior and exterior environment and make real-time adjustments to improve safety and comfort.
“BYD, known for the high quality of its batteries, is trying to make up ground (in this field) against domestic rivals such as Nio and Xpeng. So it is investing heavily in smart (systems) to maintain the inertia of its sales growth,” explained Cao Hua, a partner at Unity Asset Management, as quoted by Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post newspaper.
More than 5% of the vehicles BYD sold in 2023 had intelligent driving systems, and the company expects that figure to increase in the current fiscal year, during which it will launch more than a dozen models equipped with lidar sensors, which detect and measure distances using a pulsed laser beam.
