Chile Advances in Initiatives to Promote Sustainable Mobility

Iquique, Chile is working on initiatives to promote sustainable mobility, through the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Transport and Telecommunications of Tarapacá, which promotes more sustainable travel.

The activity brought together regional authorities, including the regional presidential delegate for Tarapacá, Daniel Quinteros, and the Transport Seremi, Pedro Medalla, as well as groups of cyclists.

Quinteros stressed the importance of promoting a lifestyle that prioritizes sustainable transport, stating that “this is an instance that allows us to dream of a different world, without traffic jams and with a better quality of life”, he told the local press.

During the day, activities were carried out to raise public awareness of the importance of choosing means of transport such as cycling and walking.

For his part, the seremi of Transport, Pedro Medalla, informed about the development of a new master plan of bicycle paths that contemplates 80 km of new routes in Iquique, prioritizing 50 km for its execution in the medium term.

An 11 km bicycle lane plan for Alto Hospicio was also mentioned, which will be updated according to the current urban context.

The authorities assured that they will continue to promote a series of initiatives that seek to promote active and sustainable mobility in the region, inviting the community to make these habits a regular practice in their daily lives.
