Chile: Copec to Develop 14 New Electroterminals in the Metropolitan Region

Copec was awarded 70% of the new charging infrastructure in the latest public transport tender in Greater Santiago de Chile.

In an official statement, the company informed that it will build 14 new electroterminals, which will supply energy to 895 new electric buses.

In this way, the company will increase its participation in the RED system with 26 electroterminals, which will supply energy to more than 2,000 electric buses, i.e., 51% of electric public transport in the Metropolitan Region.

Arturo Natho, General Manager of Copec, emphasized that they are driving Chile’s development through initiatives that promote people’s wellbeing and sustainable growth.

Urban mobility plays a key role and, therefore, we are proud to continue to be part of the public-private alliance with the Ministry of Transport, building 14 new electroterminals for the Metropolitan Region, which are added to the 13 we have in operation in Chile, two of them in regions,” he said.

He explained that the infrastructures not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions, but also significantly reduce noise pollution, improving the quality of life in urban environments.

“This public-private effort demonstrates how collaboration can accelerate the transition to a cleaner and more efficient future,” he said.

Copec Voltex, a subsidiary of Copec, will lead the design, engineering, construction, maintenance, and 100% renewable energy supply of the new electroterminals.

The facilities will have fast chargers, which will ensure the daily operation of the new electric buses that will benefit the residents of different districts.

In this regard, Andrea Castro, general manager of Copec Voltex, said that this breakthrough will cover the supply of 100% renewable energy for 51% of electric public transport in the region, consolidating the company as the largest supplier of energy for electric buses in Chile.

Copec emphasizes that the development of these projects will be possible thanks to a coordinated work with other Copec subsidiariesEMOAC and Dhemax-, which collaborate closely to deliver the supply of renewable energy and enhance the infrastructure and technological solutions necessary for the operation of the terminals.
