Chile Records 78% Growth in Low-Emission Units Sold

The National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC) published a new report highlighting the release of more than 40 new models of 100% electric vehicles so far this year.

According to the association, “the attractive promotions, which can exceed 30% off the list price, and competitive prices -which today can be found from $12,290,000 with bonuses included- continue to drive registrations of vehicles powered by this technology”.

ANAC registers a sustained increase in the sale of zero and low emission units in the country, which reached a growth of 78.6% last July, with 1,288 registrations.

In Figures

The Association details that plug-in hybrids (PHEV) increased their registrations by 147.6% (104 units). While 100% electric vehicles (BEV) registered 256 new units sold, with an increase of 591.9% in that respective month.

Conventional hybrid vehicles were not far behind with an increase of 68.9% and 549 units sold in the previous month, while micro-hybrids (MHEV) did the same with an increase of 21.6% and 366 vehicles.

Meanwhile, the new categories of extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) have registered 106 units in our country so far in 2024.

In the analysis by segments, the results also continue with positive figures. In July, SUVs grew by 71.7%, commercial vehicles increased by 118.2%, passengers increased by 313.3% and only pickup trucks decreased by 46.3%.

One of the challenges facing Chile is the massification of electromobility beyond the capital. Chilean authorities have set themselves the challenge of massifying electric mobility beyond Santiago de Chile, the leading city in the sector in Latin America.

It is worth noting that more than half of the country’s municipalities lack any kind of charging infrastructure and the Metropolitan Region concentrates almost three quarters of the existing public charging points.
