Chile records a 183% increase in electric car sales

The National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC) published its December 2024 report, stating that electric car sales in the country increased by 183% compared to 2023, reaching more than 4,500 units sold.

Breaking down the numbers, the most purchased model was the hybrid, with sales increasing by 114% over the course of one year.

According to Leonardo Méndez, Regional Manager of the Metropolitan Region at Salazar Israel, this is due to a joint effort between the public and private sectors.

More affordable prices, the standardization of charging connectors, and the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Law have been key factors contributing to this sales rebound,” he commented.

The country still faces major challenges in expanding electric mobility, such as the installation of charging stations to meet demand and the reach to regions outside the capital.

Méndez highlighted the benefits of electrified cars, emphasizing that “they require less maintenance, as they do not need oil or filter changes, and the cost of electricity to recharge them is lower than that of fossil fuels.”
