The Regional Council of La Serena, Chile, approved the acquisition of electric buses for school transportation. These are two units for the commune of La Serena.
The president of the Education and Culture Commission of the Regional Council, Juan Barraza, emphasized that this new approval of the purchase of electric buses for student transportation, in this case for La Serena, is very important to improve the quality of life and service to users.
He also emphasized that the initiative allows the region to be incorporated into the change of energy matrix. “We have to continue advancing and improving in a comprehensive way the conditions for our students, hoping that soon we will be able to incorporate these technologies to the service of our communes, especially in our Choapa province”.

Massifying Electromobility
The two electric buses for school transportation will be added to those already approved for other communes previously, initiatives that the collegiate body has supported and reinforced with the request to generate a policy for the implementation of electromobility in the Coquimbo Region.
In this sense, the councilor for Limarí, who presides the Territorial Planning Commission, Wladimir Pleticosic, emphasized that several municipalities have already benefited from these initiatives and, in parallel, they continue working with the Ministry of Transport to advance in these projects.
“We have to be aware of the challenge of transforming the conurbation into a metropolitan area, in addition to what is going to happen in Ovalle with public transportation, understanding that the one that will be made available in this commune will also be based on electromobility”, he explained.
The installation of electro-lane stations and the model of the electric vehicles to be put into circulation are fundamental elements to be considered, so the collegiate body has insisted on the need to carry out a homologation and on a regional public policy of electromobility.
