The Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción de Chile (UCSC), through the Instituto Tecnológico Sede Chillán and the Centro de Energía de la Casa de Estudios, together with the Cooperativa de Consumo de Energía Eléctrica Chillán, Copelec, signed an agreement to identify initiatives of common interest around issues associated with the study and implementation of electromobility.
With a focus on promoting research, innovation and development of projects related to electromobility in Ñuble, the agreement will seek to jointly develop R&D&I activities by defining profiles of pilot application projects, as well as seeking public-private financing.
In this sense, the Rector of the UCSC, Cristhian Mellado, pointed out that through the alliance they are making the Energy Center available, which will allow them to work on research and development projects.

“Currently, the Energy Center is working on issues such as electromobility and green hydrogen, so being able to have this alliance with a cooperative that has history and has enabled the development of the Region, will allow us to align all the efforts we are making in academia, with the public sector and private sector”.
Objectives
According to an official communiqué from the UCSC, the agreement aims to promote the implementation of electromobility in the Ñuble Region, by working together to develop a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, through the integration of renewable energies and energy storage.
The General Manager of Copelec, Patricio Lagos, highlighted the agreement signed, stating that these alliances bring good benefits for everyone.
“For us, the focus is on people, and electromobility is an issue that is part of our company’s commitment. We want to reach our Region with technological innovations, in this case, electromobility, hand in hand with the development of Ñuble”.
In this way, the agreement adds to the work promoted by UCSC in the Region on energy issues, initiated with the project “Action Plan for the Adoption of Electromobility in Ñuble“, awarded in 2022 through the Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC-R) of the Regional Government of Ñuble and executed by the University.
