Chile’s Ministry of Energy Provides Training to Women in Electromobility

The Chilean Ministry of Energy, together with the Energy Sustainability Agency, granted scholarships to 8 women mechanics from different municipalities in the region.

Various trainings in the regions of Antofagasta, Maule and Los Lagos are being developed within the framework of the Global Environment Facility project implemented by the AgencySE and the Ministry of Energy.

The trainings not only seek to increase knowledge around electromobility in the region, but also to promote the incorporation of women’s talent in the energy sector, where it has been detected that only 23% of women are part of it at a national level.

Inclusion

Liliana Alarcón, Seremi of Energy, emphasizes that moving towards efficient transportation in the Los Lagos region is a great challenge for the authorities.

“We will continue to support pioneering women who work in this area to reduce the existing gaps between men and women,” she said.

The “Initiation to Electromobility Course” is given by EMASA Training Center, with a duration of 100 hours and is aimed at women interested in strengthening their knowledge in electromobility.

From more than 20 applications received, 8 women were selected to take this academic training free of charge. The induction took place in a mechanic workshop located in the city of Puerto Montt, which currently has six women mechanics working in its workshop.

It began to operate in July 2022, and was formed from a basic mechanics workshop for women taught by DUOC UC.

They emphasize delivering a reliable, fair, timely and quality service, where they have been able to impact and approach the community by giving talks on mechanics and safe driving for women, thus motivating more women to join the industry.

Among the innovations that they can offer to their customers is to be able to work with service protocols, delivering work orders, providing traceability of vehicles and quality control prior to the removal of the vehicle from the workshop.
