Chilexpress to Incorporate 120 EVs with Enel and Copec Charging Infrastructure

After presenting an ambitious roadmap to reduce emissions in its operations, the parcel delivery company Chilexpress announced the incorporation of 120 electric vehicles to its fleet.

The company unveiled in 2021 its goal of carbon neutrality by 2035, helping to mobilize the industry towards transportation that ensures the sustainability of the business and the well-being of future generations.
The new fleet began operating gradually in August in the Metropolitan Region, where 90 last-mile electric vehicles will be deployed, and 30 units distributed in three regions of Chile will begin to roll out in the coming months.

This plan responds to a series of investments that the company has been making since 2013, within the framework of its strategy The Future Moves Us, a period in which, among others, it has strengthened the development of infrastructure of new sustainable operations centers and reduced by almost 60% the carbon footprint intensity of each order delivered.

The massive arrival of the electric fleet will reduce annually more than 800 tons of CO2.

Which Vehicles to Use?

The vehicles selected by Chilexpress for this first stage are electric vans of the Maxus eDeliver 3L model, which have a range of more than 210 km and can carry up to one ton of cargo.

In addition, compared to diesel vehicles, they do not emit particulate matter and generate practically no noise, helping to reduce air and noise pollution in the cities where they will be making deliveries.

Regarding the recharging system, in the Metropolitan Region, at the end of each day, 94% of the vehicles will be recharged in “overnight” mode at the first Enel X Way electric service station in Latin America, next to the Chilexpress distribution center, and the remaining 6% of the units will be supplied by Copec Voltex home chargers, which will be located at the carriers’ homes.

Sustainable Policy

On the road towards the goal of carbon neutrality in 2035, the company joined Race to Zero, Science Based Targets and Giro Limpio, becoming the first company in the courier sector to join these national and international initiatives.

In this sense, the general manager of Chilexpress, Alfonso Díaz, explained that they are in a stage of accelerated migration towards cleaner technologies, with the aim of continuing to promote sustainable logistics in cities and continue working to meet the short, medium and long term goals in terms of sustainability.

“We have proposed in a first stage that in 2025, 50% of all our shipments nationwide will be carried out in electric transport, he explained,” he said.

It is worth noting that in 2021 alone, Chilexpress distributed more than 32 million shipments throughout the country, thanks to the network of more than 1,000 service points from Arica to Porvenir and more than 50 distribution centers.
