The Integrated Automotive Management System (SIGA) has officially started operations in Chile with the support of over 80 leading brands, reinforcing the country’s commitment to a circular economy in the automotive sector.

The system aligns with the Extended Producer Responsibility (REP) Law and aims to manage waste such as tires, lubricants, and batteries responsibly.

A comprehensive plan for automotive waste management

Backed by approval from the Ministry of Environment, SIGA will roll out a strategic plan from 2025 to 2029, focusing on the collection, recovery, and traceability of end-of-life tires (NFU). The initiative seeks to establish a professional, transparent, and sustainable waste management system.

In addition to tires, SIGA’s multi-product approach includes the recovery of batteries and lubricating oils, amplifying its environmental impact and advancing the circular economy across the entire industry.

“We are committed to sustainable mobility. Our system has real impact in waste reduction,” said Juan Cristóbal González, SIGA’s general manager.

Pilot projects and a roadmap for expansion

In 2024, SIGA conducted pilot programs in various municipalities of Santiago to refine its collection criteria. These pilots will guide the first public tenders, expected in the second half of 2025.

A major challenge is ensuring that the recycling capacity grows with the volume of waste. SIGA is promoting investment in new technologies and a robust market for recovered materials.
