Colombia Advances in Micromobility Initiatives

The Mayor’s Office of Riohacha, in La Guajira, Colombia, launched an initiative to transform mobility in the city. It involves the implementation of 2,000 bicycles that will be available to all citizens, with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint and improving the quality of life.

The locality estimates substantial savings compared to the use of private vehicles, which will not only benefit users economically, but will also alleviate traffic congestion and improve road safety.

The project involves not only the distribution of bicycles, but also the creation of more than 50 stations strategically located throughout the city, facilitating easy and safe access to the system for all residents and visitors.

These stations will serve as key points where bicycles can be picked up and returned, ensuring smooth and efficient mobility.

The Mayor, Genaro Redondo Choles, explained that the idea is for citizens to be able to move around easily, as they will have the ability to access this service at different stations so that people can move around quickly and safely.

In addition to its environmental and social benefits, the initiative also generates economic opportunities by creating jobs in areas such as station management, bicycle maintenance and customer service.

This not only strengthens the local economy, but also promotes social inclusion through community participation in the operation of the system.
