Colombia: Resolution Issued to Regulate and Promote Electromobility

In order to promote electric mobility in Colombia, the Ministry of Mines and Energy published the draft resolution establishing the interoperability conditions for public access charging stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

According to official information from the aforementioned governmental portfolio, the regulation would promote electromobility by standardizing local interoperability with international protocols.

Ana María Orozco, Advisor to the Office of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, assured that the resolution seeks that between electric vehicles and the network there is a connection, and that each component can exchange information within that system.

“This generates a communication standard thanks to which, regardless of who manufactures the component, there is a possibility of connection without any problem generating a common interface,” she explained.

Key Points

The legal mechanism has the focus of articulating the formulation, adoption and implementation of the public policy of the administrative sector of mines and energy to coordinate the use.

It also establishes interoperability conditions for public access charging stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

The regulation will also ensure the rational use of energy and the development of alternative energy sources and promote, organize and ensure the development of programs for the adequate and efficient use of energy.

Regulation Attributes

The ministry detailed that some of the benefits of achieving interoperability are the reduction of installation and integration costs, the efficient scaling of services, the efficient development of new services and the creation of a better competitive environment.

In addition, it drives a competitive shift towards price and reliability because price transparency on a level playing field allows for more advanced offerings.
