COP 16: Cali unveils six charging stations to showcase advances in electromobility

EMCALI installed six electric recharging points as part of COP 16 to promote sustainable mobility in the District of Santiago de Cali.

José David Insuasti, EMCALI’s Energy Manager, explained that the six recharging points are in addition to the other 10 charging stations installed in Unicentro, Pacific Mall, and Versalles.

He emphasized that EMCALI promotes environmentally sustainable mobility and seeks to increase the electric charging vehicle fleet in the city, so they can access their recharges in the city center.

Technical details

Gerardo Rojas, an energy specialist who has supported the technical process of installing the electric charging points in the city, explained that the six charging stations are 7.4 kilowatts with type one AC connector, meaning that hybrid electric vehicles with a 400-kilometer range can be charged with fast charging of approximately four hours.

He added that the recharging points are available free of charge for COP 16, and afterward will be open to the public between November and December, with a cost for charging at all electric stations in the city.

Likewise, EMCALI presents recommendations for proper use of the recharging stations, such as swiping the RFID card at the recharging point and disconnecting the hoses with the card.

They suggest not disconnecting the hose for any reason while the vehicle is charging.

Engineer Rojas added that each recharging station has a certificate of conformity with the international standard IEC 61851, with remote management protocol OCPP-1.6, which corresponds to EMCALI’s fiber optic telecommunications software, allowing the recharge data to be sent to the platform to track each vehicle’s consumption.
