Copec Unveils World’s Southernmost Fast Charger

Copec inaugurated its first fast-charging station for electric vehicles in the city of Punta Arenas, Chile, making it the southernmost electric charging station in the world.

This project was carried out by Copec Voltex, a subsidiary of Copec, and was developed within the framework of the public-private alliance “+Carga Rápida” promoted by the AgenciaSE, through which the infrastructure for electromobility has been extended to different regions of the country.

The new charger is located at the Copec service station located at Avenida Presidente Manuel Bulnes N° 04486 and has a charging capacity of 120 kW, which allows an electric vehicle to be charged in 15 minutes.

Public Support

The Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz, pointed out that promoting the use of renewable energies and continuing to move towards electromobility is one of the authorities’ commitments.

“From the MTT we celebrate this initiative; the question of where I can charge will no longer be a problem for those who bet on this path, a form of mobility that until a while ago was seen as practically impossible, but that today is a reality thanks to public and private work,” he said.

For his part, the Magallanes Energy Secretary, Sergio Cuitiño, highlighted the value of the initiative, which will provide the region with the necessary charging infrastructure to enable and open the way to electromobility in the southernmost area of the world.

“The +Carga Rápida program and this charger in particular, is the fruit of a virtuous public-private alliance; Thanks to this, public access charging infrastructure – a necessary condition to achieve carbon neutrality goals,” he explained.

Francis David, Commercial Manager of Copec Voltex, expressed his satisfaction at inaugurating the southernmost electric charger in the country and the world.

“This milestone marks our firm commitment to promote electromobility throughout Chile, including in cities where the supply of electric vehicles is still limited,” he said.

Latam Mobility in Chile

In August, Latam Mobility, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America, will once again arrive in Santiago de Chile for its 2024 meeting.

The two-day event will bring together the most prominent industry leaders, along with public sector personalities, to offer their perspectives on advances in low-emission mobility, electromobility and sustainability.
