El Dorado Airport Deploys Electric Fleet for Platform Operations

Through an official press release, El Dorado Airport (Bogota) informed that it has replaced its entire vehicle fleet with electric vehicles to service its apron operations.

This will reduce maintenance costs, reduce noise during journeys, implement technologies and, of course, promote sustainable mobility and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

“This transformation of the fleet that operates on the platform – to 100% electric – is an achievement, since we are avoiding the emission of 113 tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is equivalent to the carbon dioxide capture of approximately 700 mature trees annually,” said Natalí Leal, General Manager of OPAIN.

El Dorado Airport in Figures

El Dorado’s fleet consists of 18 double-cab vehicles with flatbeds for operations, maintenance and security. Each of them is equipped with 360° vision cameras, designed to improve driving and facilitate the recognition of external elements.

To complement this initiative, 6 charging points have been installed that are powered by the solar panel system located on the airport’s roof, designed to supply energy to the new fleet of electric vehicles.

On the other hand, it should be noted that El Dorado Airport’s climate strategy includes the reduction of direct emissions derived from the use of fossil fuels and energy, through the installation of solar panels, the Retrofit project and other implemented actions.

As a result, they have recorded a 78% reduction in emissions, in line with the airport’s commitment to achieve emissions neutrality by 2025.
