Chile is one of the countries where electric mobility is more established, being the nation with the most electrified buses in Latin America. From December 2018 to date, almost 800 transport vehicles with these technologies were put into operation, to which another 991 will be added by a tender already awarded and another 137 by fleet renewal.
This boom in the southern country is due not only to the incentive by the authorities, but also to the investments and innovations carried out by private companies that are betting on this market.
One of the companies that is betting heavily on electromobility, with a major expansion plan in which Latin America has taken a fundamental part, is the Enel Group, which through its subsidiaries is driving the energy transition on a global scale.
In this sense, the Italian organization announced at the beginning of May the creation of Enel X Way Chile, the new subsidiary owned by Enel Chile and Enel SpA dedicated entirely to sustainable electric mobility, with a focus on the development of technologies and solutions to improve the customer experience, supporting the electrification of transportation for consumers, companies and cities.
The General Manager of Enel X Way Chile, Jean Paul Zalaquett highlighted that with the inception of this new company, there is a specific focus of action inaccelerating the transition to a more sustainable mobility.
“Our goal is to leverage integrated digital platforms to enable and deliver innovative and flexible services that meet the changing needs of customers. With Enel X Way our mission is to bring electromobility closer to everyone,” he stressed.
According to an Enel press release, the creation of this new company was approved at the Enel Chile shareholders’ meeting held on April 27 and the deed that creates it is effective from May 1. It will be 49% owned by Enel Chile and 51% by Enel X Way SpA.
Global Success
The Enel Group’s new global business line, Enel X Way, dedicated to electric mobility, is already active in 17 countries in Europe, America and Asia, managing 320,000 public and private recharging points both directly and through interoperability agreements.
The new global line has a strong presence in European markets, including, above all, Italy, Spain and Romania. In the United States, the company is one of the main players in the charging market, while in Latin America it is a leader in technology and services for charging electric vehicles and in the electrification of fleets of all types.
