Enel X Way, Chilexpress and Espacio Urbano Open Ultra Fast Charging Station

In Chile‘s electromobility market, interesting movements continue to emerge with a view to the massification of new technologies that contribute to the decarbonization of the automotive sector.

In this regard, leading companies such as Enel X Way, Espacio Urbano and Chilexpress announced an alliance that aims to promote electric mobility in the city of Antofagasta.

Through the partnership, Chilexpress will be able to make use of the first and only public fast-charging electric station in Espacio Urbano Antofagasta+, where electric cars of private individuals, last-mile fleets, radio cabs and companies can be supplied.

Strengthening Ties

The alliance began between Espacio Urbano and Enel X Way in 2022 and consisted of installing 14 double chargers, with 60 KW of power in its commercial centers distributed in six regions between Antofagasta and Magallanes.

As of this week, the last mile company Chilexpress joins this agreement, which will use the fast charging points to supply the fleet of four electric vehicles in the Antofagasta Region, allowing it to reduce more than 19 tons of CO2 per year locally and to continue advancing towards its goal of carbon neutrality in 2035.

These moves show the commitment of the three companies to promote electromobility in different cities of the country and, thus, contribute to reduce CO2 emissions and move towards increasingly cleaner cities.

Support from Public Sector

The Mayor of Antofagasta, Jonathan Velásquez, was also present at the alliance and expressed his satisfaction with the agreements reached for the massification of electric mobility.

“I appreciate the commitment of these companies, which join the sustainable development of our commune, because this commitment also implies a responsibility to the environment, since this type of initiative helps us so that Antofagasta can receive more electric vehicles and thus contribute to their massification, which will allow, in addition to modernizing our vehicle fleet, that the pearl shines with an increasingly smaller carbon footprint.”

For his part, Jean Paul Zalaquett, Manager of Enel X Way in Latin America pointed out, together with different authorities of the region and executives of Espacio Urbano and Chilexpress, that the fast charger will be the starting point to seal this alliance between the three companies.

“In this way, we will contribute to facilitate the charging process of electric fleets such as those of Chilexpress that meet the needs of parcel delivery for customers in the Antofagasta region.”

“Alliances between companies make electromobility more and more available to everyone and we will continue working so that every day there are more charging points throughout the country”, he emphasized.

Along the same lines, Jaime Solá, Operations Manager of Espacio Urbano, said he was pleased that the alliance that began in 2022 with Enel X Way is generating more opportunities for other companies, such as Chilexpress, to have alternatives available to meet their operational needs in terms of sustainability.

The agreement is part of the first phase of the electrification of Chilexpress’ last mile fleet, which already reaches 120 electric vehicles in six regions of the country.
