Enel X Way Leads Alliance to Introduce the Largest Charging Center in Latin America

As part of the important alliance between Kia Chile and Inversiones Security to promote electric mobility in the country through the acquisition of electric vehicles, Enel X Way joined as a strategic partner in the installation of the charging infrastructure that took place in the parking lots of the Parque Arauco Kennedy mall.

In this sense, Parque Arauco, together with Enel X Way inaugurated “Green Park“, the largest public charging center for electric cars in Latin America, transforming the mall into the first in the country to have a space of this type for public use.

This new space will have 170 JuiceBox socket chargers, which will be available in the parking lot -1 and -2 of Parque Arauco Kennedy mall (Rosario Sector).

Operation

According to a statement issued by Enel, a significant number of chargers will be available for use by customers of the shopping center during the day, while, at night, they will be used exclusively by the 170 electric units of Kia Niro EV vehicles, which will be managed by Tucar and made available to Uber driver-partners through the lease modality.

The chargers have a power of 7kW and allow a full charge of the vehicles in a few hours. In addition, they are 100% renewable energy thanks to a contract with Enel Generación.

In order to make use of these chargers, customers must have their Enel x Way RFID card and/or download the free Enel X Way App, where users can interact with the smart charging platform, allowing easy use and payment, thus achieving total control of the charging experience.

Launch of Multiple Plans

Andrés Pizarro, Commercial Manager of Enel X Way Chile, said that by the end of this year, they expect to have another two projects like this one, with at least 50 chargers each, in addition to another 90 fast charging points, between Santiago and regions.

“In parallel, we are working to add two electro-stations, one of them also in regions. As Enel X Way we have set ourselves the goal of connecting Chile through 1,200 electric chargers by 2026. Today, our Electroruta project is already 45% complete“, he explained.

For his part, Benjamín Del Sante, Operational Excellence Manager of Parque Arauco Chile Division, said that they seek to implement innovative services in their shopping centers that strengthen the experience of visitors and also respond to current needs of the city.

Along the same lines, Ximena Bedoya, Corporate Head of Sustainability at Parque Arauco S.A., emphasized that this milestone is directly linked to the company’s climate strategy, with which they also managed to close 2022 with 78% of the total consolidated energy consumption in Chile, Peru and Colombia coming from renewable sources, which is decisive in the reduction of direct emissions from shopping centers.

Juan Pablo Lira, General Manager of AGF Security, a subsidiary of Banco Security, highlighted that this alliance allows them to encourage the use of electric vehicles as a sustainable alternative, while Sebastián Russi, CFO of Kia Chile, explained that the creation of this Fund responds to the need of the manufacturer to actively participate in the electromobility business.

It should be noted that the government’s National Electromobility Strategy establishes that by 2035 only electric vehicles will be sold in Chile and for this to happen there must be sufficient charging infrastructure ready to receive them and also to encourage the development of electric transport, a fundamental step towards decarbonization and the development of cities.
