EPM Opens New Electric Charging Station in Medellín

Estación eléctrica

Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) has launched a new electric vehicle charging station at El Tesoro Shopping Center, in the southeastern part of the city.

This is the second charging infrastructure the company has installed in this well-known commercial complex, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable mobility in Antioquia.

Located in Basement 4 of Plaza Palmas, the station is equipped with cutting-edge technology: two 7.4 kWh chargers with Type 1 connectors and two 22 kWh chargers with Type 2 connectors.

It also features a modernized payment option, allowing users to pay via debit and credit cards and through the EPM App, in addition to the traditional Electric Mobility Card.

Greater accessibility, stronger electric mobility

This flexible payment system is also available at other stations, such as EDS Los Álamos, the Medellín Museum of Modern Art (MAMM), and Mall La Fe. With this addition, EPM now operates 22 public EV charging stations across Antioquia.

Nationwide, the EPM Group complements this network with 15 more stations in cities such as Armenia, Manizales, Cúcuta, Bucaramanga, San Gil, and Ocaña.

According to EPM data, there are currently over 8,300 plug-in electric vehicles operating in Antioquia, with nearly 30% registered in the last year alone. This rapid growth is driven by public policies and increasing environmental awareness among citizens.

Each new charging station represents a step forward toward cleaner, more sustainable transportation. EPM highlights the role of this infrastructure in reducing the carbon footprint of the transport sector, one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.
