Juan Valencia, Commercial Vice President of EPM, spoke exclusively with Latam Mobility about the plans in which the company is advancing both in Colombia and throughout Latin America.
He stressed that the EPM group, with its presence in Central and Latin America, has long been focused on being a protagonist of the sustainable mobility ecosystem and particularly electric mobility.
“In our case, we started as suppliers of the public transportation system in Medellin, Colombia. In the subway, in 1995, that was our first course in public transportation and electric transportation, and from that moment until today we continue”.
Evolution
Valencia went back to 2012, where EPM started with some small pilots and made the purchase of the vehicles.
Subsequently, in 2015, the group decided to boost the electric mobility ecosystem in Medellin Antioquia and Colombia, starting an articulated work with key players such as financial institutions, insurance companies, the district of Medellin with the Secretariat of Sustainable Mobility and began to work on building the chain.
“We have become in Antioquia as one of the references at Latin American level in the electric mobility sector, as we have been advancing steadily, today we have about 35 charging stations and we expect to close this year with 50,” Valencia detailed.
“Our goal is that anyone who has an electric vehicle will have peace of mind when moving around. “We have green corridors that reach the Eje Cafetero in Santander and precisely in the capitals of Norte de Santander,” he said.
Valencia concluded that while it is true that progress is important, there are still great challenges to massify electromobility, through a robust charging infrastructure that allows users to move with peace of mind.
