Mexican authorities presented the first 100% electric Mexican passenger bus “Taruk”; which was promoted by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt) with the support of two companies and educational and research institutions.
Delia Aideé Orozco Hernández, Deputy Director of Technological Development, Linking and Innovation of Conahcyt, highlighted that the bus is an example of what can be achieved when forces and talents join.
“We hope that Taruk will be the basis of a new era of public and sustainable transportation in our country,” she added in statements reviewed by Infobae.

According to Conahcyt, this new public transportation will be an alternative to reduce the use of private vehicles, especially those that use fossil fuels, reduce costs and congestion, and promote inclusive urban mobility.
‘Taruk’ means ‘roadrunner’ in the Yaqui language, and the government decided to name it this way as a tribute to such an important town in Sonora —one of the entities with the highest lithium production.
Tests have already begun on Route 46 of the Mexico City Passenger Transport Network (RTP), which covers 22 kilometers with 39 stops that go from Santa Catarina to the Central de Abastos, passing through the Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, and Tláhuac districts.
It is expected to be available for testing in all states soon, according to the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies.
It is important to mention that the design of ‘Taruk’ is 100% Mexican and that 67% of its parts are nationally sourced.
It has a length of 9.5 meters, a capacity for 69 passengers, a four-hour fast charge with an autonomy of 200 kilometers and, perhaps most importantly, it meets all international standards.
