In Latin America, Chile, Mexico and Colombia have figures that support them as leading cities in the implementation of sustainable mobility. However, other countries are also making significant progress in this area.
Ecuador is one of the nations in the region that has made the most progress in recent years. A few weeks ago, Kayak’s City Index for Conscious Travelers, which designs an interactive guide that helps tourists take into account the sustainable aspect of cities to choose them as their next destination, chose Quito as one of the sustainable urban destinations.
Major automotive manufacturers have taken these results into account and are focusing on Ecuador to accelerate investments in charging infrastructure and electric vehicles.
In this regard, General Motors announced its electrification strategy for the Ecuadorian market, a milestone for the automotive industry, which is undergoing one of the biggest transformations in its history.

Latin America has become a key region for the automotive giant’s strategy, as part of its roadmap to “achieve a world with zero accidents, zero emissions and zero congestion”.
Such is the interest that, at the beginning of 2023, General Motors made a key visit to Colombia to evaluate the possibilities of installing its first assembly plant in South America.
Ecuador joins the first countries in South America to offer the brand’s electric vehicles, with the presentation of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, a model that has achieved great success in several markets.
For Rafael Santos, Director of Commercial Operations and Consortium of General Motors South America, this is the right time to start the transition to sustainable mobility.
“The automotive industry worldwide is going through one of the biggest transformations in its history, which is moving towards a fully sustainable mobility through a process of disruption towards an electric, autonomous, connected and shared future.
In that line, what we are announcing on this occasion is the beginning of Chevrolet’s electrification era, which brings with it a strategy of solutions and channels designed for all audiences in Ecuador, starting with the introduction of the Chevrolet Bolt EUV,” Santos said.
Marcus de Oliveira, Commercial Director of General Motors Ecuador points out that the country has all the potential to realize the greatest development of electric mobility.
To make electric vehicles more affordable, efficient and available on a large scale, General Motors is working on strategic solutions such as Ultium technologies, a flexible battery architecture platform that will enable the production of different types of electric vehicles, with extraordinary power, range and performance.
